It was a huge pleasure to welcome the band Dosca to AHS on Friday 29th Sept. Dosca were playing in Lochaber at Feis na Mara and have been nominated for an MG Alba Trad award in 2016, won Battle of the Folk Bands 2017 and their fiddler Charlie Stewart is the BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year. The members of the band ran a series of pipes/ whistle, flute, fiddle, guitar and drums workshops for our traditional musicians which were inspiring and eye opening. The pupils enjoyed being with and learning from these excellent musicians and some of the work being done was fantastic. The bands as tutors were warm and engaging and their enthusiasm for the music was infectious. It was also great to welcome four pupils from Mallaig high School who joined us for the morning. Big thanks to Dosca for their time and efforts and also to Sarah-Jayne Shankland our Feis fiddle tutor for organising the visit. We hope they will return soon!
