Duke of Edinburgh Report

Nine of our DofE participants taking part in expeditions this year at Bronze and Silver levels have been training hard for their respective expeditions and are now ready to complete their qualifying expeditions with Bronze group  going first on  27th September and Silver on 11th October.

To enable them to proceed to a qualifying expedition they have been undertaking training in camp craft, navigation, team work and first aid. Our Silver group have also received kayaking safety training and have been improving their kayaking skills and fitness, all under the direction of Ally Connolly, our DofE Approved Activity Provider who has done a great job in preparing our young people for their qualifying expeditions. Many thanks.

All training is now complete with both Bronze and Silver group successfully undertaking their practice expeditions.

GOOD LUCK WITH THE QUALIFYING EXPEDITIONS AND HAVE FUN.

First Aid Training

We would also like to thank our local paramedics Bo Wilson and Gail Muir for undertaking the 4 week first aid training course (2hrs per sessions) with both groups and providing them with skills that will set them in good stead for their expeditions and beyond. Both Bo and Gail gave up their free time to provide the training sessions, with both in attendance each week in case one of them got a call out.

FUND RAISING

Participants have also been raising funds with Andrew, Emma and Duncan along with their parents, Ian, Louise, Margaret and Matthew’s mum Lyndsay, manning a stall at Strontian Show in August, raising £152.50.  A big thank you to Jackie and Charlie Pleming for providing the fun activities and prizes and helping man the stall on the day . Jan, Chris, Jamie, Ruby and Matthew have all been seeking sponsorship. Thank you to all who have contributed to both of these fund raisers.

We have also been successful with both of our lottery applications, receiving £3,137 from Awards for All,  that will help towards funding Silver expeditions for this and next year and £750 from Communities 14 which will provide funds towards next year’s Bronze expeditions.
